THE NOTE

by Studio 301

Logline: Small town boy finds love through his Church and later, as an adult, suffers the loss of a guiding figure which shows him his true self.

Bonjour!

My name is Kyle Asperger. I’m the Founder/Creative Director of Studio 301 (studio301.org). We’re a principled production house specializing in visual storytelling for those who seek to do good (non-profits, especially those doing work in cancer research and mental health).

I’ll start, candidly, by saying that none of the following is going to save the world. The honest truth is that I had a shower thought and through a conversation with an old friend, was inspired to flesh out this story into a script which I call “The Note”.

Quite simply, this is the fruit of a small team of badasses coming together to put a heart-felt story into the ether. Script based storytelling is what I would love for Studio 301 to endeavor on full-time for mission driven businesses and organizations.

That said, people don’t know what they don’t see. Until we build this narrative, folks will not know to call on Studio 301 for such stories to be told.

We are agents of change seeking to do more good through the practice of storytelling.

Animated Short Film - “The Note” (Duration, ~ 3 minutes)

Log Line:

Small town boy finds love through his Church and later, as an adult, suffers the loss of a guiding figure which shows him his true self.

Our Process

Animated short films are a significant undertaking. Multiple hands must be brought to the table to bring “The Note” to life.

I’ve spent the past month and a half assembling the key individuals to do just that. Here’s the team member breakdown and their roles:

  • Kyle Asperger (Writer/Creative Director)
  • Quinn Gaughan (Animation Team Lead)
  • Zach Campbell (Animator)
  • Eros Meyers (Animator)
  • Tim Bulster (Music Composer)
  • George Barrie (Sound Effects/Editing)
  • Nathan Metzler (Typography)
  • Dannielle Stewart (Copywriter/Editor)

Without the individuals listed above, this story won’t be able to come to life.

I should note, because this is a personal project, Studio 301 will not profit monetarily from this endeavor. In the long run, this will become a refined portfolio piece to help us tell stories on behalf of others.

What We Need What You Get

Your funding (in the form of a charitable donation through From The Heart Productions) will go straight into the pockets of the artists crafting the animation. Here’s the price breakdown:

  • Illustration/Animation Fee: $15,130.00
  • Storyboard Fee: $1,209.00
  • Sound Effects Licensing Fee: $1,000.00
  • Typography Fee: $900.00
  • Sound Effects/Editing Fee: $500.00
  • Music Composition Fee: $200.00
  • Film Festival Budget: $5,000
  • Editing Fee: $3,500

Project Total: $27,439.00

Between campaign investments as well as external contributions, we’re beyond proud to say that we have 22 private donors. As of July 27th, 2022, we’ve raised $10,709.33 out of the total project fee of $27,439.00.

The Impact

Studio 301 is a production house. We produce on behalf of businesses and organizations that have a vision and want to leave the world in a better way than when they found it. Other’s goals (non-profits/businesses that deal with cancer and mental health) become our driving motivation to continue doing what we do.

Humans, as a species, connect through story. Storytelling drives our modern world. Studio 301 would like for this animated short film to be our most significant portfolio piece to date. One that will be a jumping off point for the 301 team to level up and tell stories that we truly believe in.

The money we raise through this campaign as well as grant funding will help us to craft our new signature dish.

Bon appetit, my friends.

Risks Challenges

This endeavor will not only be a transformational asset for Studio 301’s portfolio, but a challenge for me as the Creative Director

I’ve been sober since June, 2021. That proclamation was the first of some MASSIVE transformation for me.

Since then, I’ve dedicated more time to loving myself, training, learning and strengthening my understanding of my values. With that, my discipline has sharpened and so has my appreciation for challenges, both big and small.

Challenges present opportunities. In many cases, opportunities for growth.

Selfishly, I believe that writing and producing “The Note” is the best thing I can do to strengthen myself as a Creative Director and leader. Chief among my responsibilities as a storyteller is my ability to find talent to bring a vision to life. The individuals I found have already taught me much about the process, the steps, and inspired me to work hand-in-hand with them to create the final feature.

Regardless of the product, I will look upon this venture fondly as a vehicle, by thine own design, to inspire change from within. And thus, Studio 301 will be eons more effective in crafting non-profits’ stories, influencing minds, and making the world a better place.

Other Ways You Can Help

NO ROI?! I get it, this is a tough ask. Helping us build out a measly little animation with nothing more than a brief callout in the credits…99.999% of people would be so angered that they could spit.

If you’re one of those folks, you’re completely justified in feeling that way.

Studio 301 is seeking to build more with non-profits because they have goals and stories that the world needs to hear. And we can help them do just that.

Until people have a robust understanding of what we can offer them, non-profits won’t know to call upon us. And that’s where YOUR good word can come in.

We are agents of change. Visual storytellers, inspired by those who want to change the state of the world.

Help us by telling our story.

Ciao.
